Report: LSU has fired Les Miles and Cam Cameron
According to a report fromĀ The Advocate, LSU head coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron have been fired.
It was reported earlier in the day that the LSU brass was meeting to discuss the respective futures of both Miles and Cameron in Baton Rouge. After the meeting concluded, it was decided it would be in the best interest of the program to part ways with the head coach and offensive coordinator.

During his 12-year career in Baton Rouge, Miles has gone 114-34 — including seven bowl victories, seven seasons with at least 10 victories, and a National Title in 2007.
Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron is expected to be named as the interim head coach.

Incredible. Careful what you wish for LSU.
Sad day, worst move ever !
Y’all lost ur 5 star QB last year threading to fire Les, so basically it’s your fault to begin with.
They should have fired Cam at the end of last season. That was the only chance Les had of saving his job. His friendship and stubbornness cost him his job. Sad, but needed.
I’m calling it now Notre dame fires Brian Kelley and hires Les.
Then you need to stop calling things. Miles will go to Podunk U like Tuberville and other so so coaches do. There is no way they will fire a mediocre coach for another mediocre coach.
Notre Dame’s not firing Kelly. Notre Dame has a heck of a lot more patience than most SEC schools. And besides, the AD at Notre Dame knows a little something about loyalty, which apparently the AD at LSU knows nothing about.
It wont be the same without the mad hatter on the side lines. I’m still apprehensive about my plains tigers visiting the real Death Valley.
I don’t think Les will be as easily replaced as many LSU fans might imagine.
And thus, the SEC coaching carousel begins spinning again
They FINALLY put the animal out of its misery.
LSU let me tell y’all, it doesn’t get better. Stupid decision by AD. Couldn’t even let him finish the season? I loved Les Miles, always respected him as a HC. Sad to see him go. Sigh…
Sure you felt the same way about Richt too.
Time will tell as to how good/bad the decision is. Long term, probably good. Short term, hard to tell right now. I would imagine they discussed this in their “meeting” and decided it best to try to stop the bleeding in order to save the team long term.
I think we should have waited till the end of the season to pull the trigger, but it was time to move on. There is no excuse for losing those 2 games against wisconsin and auburn when we have the most talent returning in the nation, from last year to this year, and the top tier recruits we are constantly bringing in. If Les would have been willing to let Cam go they might have let him stay, but his loyalty to Cam, I think, is what ultimately forced them to part ways. Love you to death Les, and we will miss you, but it’s time for a new chapter in LSU football and I’m looking forward to it.
They should have fired les and kept Cam as HC. That way they had an insider and very little transition. Change was needed but why cut your nose off to spite your face?
Wow. Great recruiter, terrible clock manager. Not sure of the wisdom of firing him mid-season, though.
Amazing that the Les Miles era ended on a clock management debacle!
Yeesh, the sad part of it is that it used to not be this way. I believe with coaches like Nick Saban and Urban Meyer around, there’s just no more room for error anymore. Everybody wants to be a champion, but not everybody can be an Alabama or an Ohio State.
I liked Les, his post game interviews would genuinely brighten my day. I looked forwards to those.
:'(
How does orgeron continue to find himself in this sort of situation?
LSU problem was no QB not Miles. If this is true, bad news for LSU. Who is out there right now that could replace Miles? Oregeron is a snake oil salesman who failed at HC. Dont think yall want Kiffin. Kiffin needs to mature another 40 years. He is a good OC but lousy HC. Who else is there?
Herman, Fisher, Petrino, and Dantonio are the top four names mentioned. The firing allows LSU to get the word out now. They also have two immediate openings on their staff now. I would fill one of them with Sark.
If they hire Tom Herman, LSU becomes the next closest thing we’ll see to a dynasty. Dudes a genius
Hey, not sure I agree with you on Kiffin. Sure, I get that you’re still angry over what he did to ya’ll a few years back, but lets face it: Kiffin’s a good coach. Maybe not a great coach, but a good coach. He’s a good recruiter. One heck of an OC. And he can work with just about anything.
USC should have never fired him. They’d probably be nationally relevant today had he stayed. Karma though…
I think someone is about to trade jobs with Bobby Petrino
All of the sudden bowl games could prove hard to reach in Baton Touge!
Firing Les Miles, dumb. Firing an assistant without firing every one on that side of the ball, dumber. Firing almost anyone at the beginning of the season, dumbest. Get ready for some bewildering times LSU fans. Wisconsin was not a bad team and neither was Auburn. Heck at this point in the season you have no idea if those two losses were reasonable or not?
Too bad. He was always entertaining. Just refused to bring his OC/offense up to date. Hopefully it turns out better for you than it did for UT.
It will be interesting to see how coach O does. He certainly learned what not to do at UM.
Well I guess the LSU fans on SDS will thin out over the next few weeks……Remember the 90s?
Well that wasn’t entirely unexpected. Stupid move from the AD.
I’ve never understood why AD’s fire coaches midseason. Unless there’s some sort of scandal that deserves immediate attention, what’s the point? You’re still paying the fired coach what you owed them. Your team isn’t really in any better position than where it was prior to the firing of said coach. And you’re not going to hire an actual replacement coach until 2 or 3 weeks after the end of the regular season.
Just doesn’t make sense. Especially here with a coach that won you a national championship, played in another, and has had a very good record over the last decade in what has to be the toughest division in all of college football.
This is how people like Clay Helton get hired at top tier programs.
This is about as stupid a move as could be made. It has been Les Miles who has prevented LSU from slipping back to mediocrity. Yes he cannot coach a quarterback to save his life (or job, in this case), but he is perhaps the best recruiter outside Saban and Swinney in the nation. He’s better than Harbaugh, better than Meyers… This was dumb.
Unbelievable! The man took that program to 2 nationall championships. I doubt Mark Richt would have gotten fired had he taking the dogs that far. Keep your head up Les Miles.
What do the LSU fans think of Orgeron taking over for good? I thought he got screwed at USC. I know he’s a good recruiter and a respected coach. Curious to here LSU fans take.
Orgeron isn’t a good long term coach. He’s a stop-gap guy who can keep the ship moving forward. He’s a great recruiter and motivator so you want him on your staff but not a long term solution. The best case for LSU is to keep Aranda as D Coord and hire a off minded coach like Herman or Petrino.
Hate to see Les Miles go, What LSU and specifically Les Miles did for SC will not be forgotten. Wishing both the University and Coach the best.
