It’s easy to say now that things worked out well for former LSU RB Leonard Fournette after he went to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Now, the ex-Tiger has a big NFL contract and will try to become one of the best running backs in the pro ranks.

However, at SEC Media Days on Tuesday, SEC Network analyst Marcus Spears — himself a former LSU star — ripped into his alma mater, claiming they mishandled Fournette’s immense talent while discussing current LSU RB Derrius Guice, according to NOLA.com:

“Guice has more dimensions to his game, but Leonard was done a disservice by LSU,” Spears said. “He was good enough to be a superstar in that offense, but my God if he could have been in a creative offense. If he could have gotten the ball more in the open field, he would have broken so many records. Leonard had to create a lot of his runs. It was phenomenal to watch.”

After rushing for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2015, Fournette was plagued by injuries in 2016, amassing a still-impressive 843 yards and eight scores in only seven games.

Guice stepped up and filled Fournette’s shoes admirably, though, leading the SEC with 1,387 rushing yards.

This year, with new offensive coordinator Matt Canada on board, Spears will be watching closely to see if the Tigers get more creative with Guice than they ever did with Fournette.
