Tyrann Mathieu, 2018 MVP Patrick Mahomes enjoying competition in Kansas City Chiefs camp

Tyrann Mathieu came to the Kansas City Chiefs with the reputation as one of football’s top defensive backs. Facing off against the NFL’s reigning MVP, Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes, in Chiefs camp has upped the level of competition.
“He’s a monster,” Mahomes recently said of Mathieu. “A guy that’s able to do everything, really good at every single aspect of football and a great football player. It’s good to have some of the great guys out there on defense you get to compete against them and make yourself better.”
Mathieu thinks going against Mahomes and the Kansas City passing attack will ultimately make him a better defender.
“Every single play is a challenge going against an MVP-caliber quarterback and the weapons he has,” Mathieu told reporters. “Each and every day we’re trying our best to really compete against each other.”
Kansas City notched a 12-4 mark in the 2018 regular season and advanced all the way to the AFC Championship Game behind Mahomes leading the high-powered Chiefs offense. If the addition of the Honey Badger makes both sides of the ball better, Kansas City could be in for a special 2019 campaign.
