Heading into the 2018 season, Dak Prescott will make $630,000 — about as much as Brandon Allen.

Considering that Prescott, a former Mississippi State star, is the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback and Allen, a former Arkansas Razorback, is the third-string quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, that’s a preposterous statement.

However, a big payday could be heading Prescott’s way after this season, and the Cowboys may have to pony up some serious dough to keep him around. Fortunately for Prescott, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones sounds willing to keep Prescott in Dallas (via Star-Telegram.com):

“Yeah, you know at that position, it kind of is what it is,” Jones said Wednesday at the team’s annual golf tournament. “You kind of, when the time comes, [expect to pay him]. I know Dak is going to have a good year this year. I hope it’s up there. It’s going to be as he deserves. He was a fourth-round pick. No one deserves to get paid fairly more than he does.”

While there has been some speculation about a $100 million contract, Prescott likely won’t be paid like Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins or Matt Ryan, but that doesn’t mean the Cowboys are going to lowball him, either:

“We all see what some of the other guys are who aren’t Aaron Rodgers, who aren’t Matt Ryan [are getting paid],” Jones said. “He’s going to do well. We certainly know that’s going to happen. We’ve got that planned in our budgeting for the salary cap.

“I just want Dak to go out and be MVP this year of the NFL. That’s what I want. Then, we’ll deal with that.”

Prescott took a step back last year after winning the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2016. However, a big year in 2018 will greatly help his wallet.
