Mike Leach has a long history of taking quarterbacks that come without much fanfare and developing them into elite performers on the field and now Jack Kristofek will have the opportunity to join the list of successful signal-callers that have played in Leach’s Air Raid offense.

That’s because the former Sam Houston State quarterback just announced his decision to play for Leach at Mississippi State.

Kristofek, a Dallas native, appeared in just two games during his Sam Houston State career, both appearances came during the 2019 season, meaning Kristofek will arrive in Starkville as a redshirt freshman. Sam Houston State has yet to play football this year as the Southland Conference moved its season to the spring due to COVID.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God, my family, my teammates and friends for all the support through this long, difficult process,” Kristofek posted on Friday. “I would also like to thank my coaches at First Baptist who have pushed me day in and day out to strive for greatness and become a better man. I would also like to thank my family for being there for me every step of the way through the good times and bad. Lastly, I would like to thank Coach Leach, Coach Hollingshead and Mississippi State staff for giving me the opportunity to pursue my dreams at a high academic and athletic level… with that being said, I would like to commit to Mississippi State.”

Kristofek was a team captian in his final two seasons at his First Baptist Academy high school, where he threw for 6,530 yards and 84 touchdowns with 18 interceptions. He was named first-team All-state back in 2018.
