Mike Leach responds to whether polls matter to him after Mississippi State’s top 25 ranking

Mike Leach and Mississippi State are in the top 25 for the 1st time this season by virtue of its win over Texas A&M in Week 5.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 23 in both the AP media poll and the coaches’ poll, their first time ranked since 2020. And, with a win over Arkansas, who is receiving votes in the AP poll and is 25th in the coaches’ poll, they might be able to make a slight jump with a win on Saturday.

Just don’t expect Leach to pay much attention to them, though.

I pretty much ignore them.  Go to the next one.  Been busy watching film all night.  That’ll happen again tonight.  I’ve been preoccupied with that.  There’s no stopping point on the poll thing. Just worry about right now and what you can control. Today, it’s put together the best game plan you can, tomorrow, it’s have the best practice you can. So it goes.

Regardless of the topic, whether it’s football, pirates, or weddings, no one ever accused Leach of not shooting straight from the hip. Did you expect anything less?
