Mississippi State will meet Louisiana-Lafayette in New Orleans this week, and the Bulldogs have already released their 2019 captains ahead of the game.

Darryl Williams, the team’s center, Erroll Thompson, a linebacker, new starting QB Tommy Stevens, walk-on P Kody Schexnayder and STAR Brian Cole II were named team captains. Stevens recently won a preseason competition with Keytaon Thompson, in part because coach Joe Moorhead said he could better attack opponents down the field.

This game will be an interesting test for the Bulldogs following the announcement of suspensions for 10 unnamed players following the NCAA academic misconduct investigation.

LB Willie Gay Jr. is also recovering from a leg injury and his status is not yet known for the opener.

The game will kick off at noon ET on ESPNU. The Bulldogs are nearly a three-touchdown favorite in the game.
