For two weeks in a row, Mississippi State has taken part in making sure one of the SEC’s most-exciting matchups on paper turned into a blowout.

First, the Bulldogs were on the winning end of a 37-7 Week 3 blowout against LSU. Then, in Week 4, they were on the losing end, falling 31-3 at Georgia.

However, Mississippi State DC Todd Grantham isn’t ready to say the Bulldogs suffered a hangover effect from a big win over LSU. He told 247Sports on Tuesday that he simply thinks a young Bulldogs squad needs to learn how to win on a weekly basis:

“I just think that when you win a big game, you got to understand that it’s on to the next one and that kind of thing,” he said. I don’t think it’s anything more than that. I’m moving on to the next one, to be honest with you, and looking forward to this battle. Just understanding each week is a dog fight. Each week is gonna be tough and particularly when you play on the road, you got to be able to execute and do those things.

“When you self-inflict wounds and give uncontested touchdowns and things like that, you are not going to be where you need to be in the fourth quarter and we weren’t. We are a young team and we will learn from it and move on.”

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Mississippi State, as they travel to Auburn to take on the No. 13 Tigers on Saturday night.

If the Bulldogs don’t have a better week of practice, they could turn a third-straight marquee matchup into a dud.
