It wasn’t the prettiest game ever, but the Mississippi State Bulldogs got a big SEC win against Arkansas. The Bulldogs defense held Arkansas out of the endzone, winning the game, 7-3.

In today’s football, rarely do you see one team held below 10 points, let alone both of the teams. Quarterback Mike Wright didn’t have the biggest game for Mississippi State, has he threw for only 85 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Filling in for the injured Will Rogers was enough to get the win.

However, he did rush for 60 yards in the win, and gave the team a speech that coach Zach Arnett said helped the team win the game.

“He was ready for the opportunity and excited about it,” Arnett told reporters after the game. “I heard him in the locker room pregame giving a speech to the team. He definitely had them more fired up than when I give them a speech, so I might have to have him continue to do that.”

Wright was making his first start at Mississippi State after playing the last 3 seasons at Vanderbilt. He filled in 2 weeks ago after Rogers got hurt during the Western Michigan.

The Bulldogs will be looking for Wright to give another fiery pregame speech next week, as the team travels to Auburn to take on the Tigers. With the win, Mississippi State is 4-3 and very much back in contention to make a bowl game.

Auburn will host Ole Miss on Saturday night.
