No need to pump the brakes on the Derek Dooley hype train in Missouri, according to Jim Sterk. If anything, it’s time to kick the train into another gear.

Dooley, of course, is no stranger to the SEC as he served as Tennessee’s head coach from 2010-2012 and suffered a 51-48 defeat to Mizzou in the first meeting between the two programs. After being fired by Tennessee, after racking up an SEC record of 4-19, Dooley served in the NFL as a receivers coach with the Dallas Cowboys.

During a recent appearance on the Bernie Miklasz Show out of St. Louis, the Missouri athletic director had a pretty bold take on one of the most controversial hirings in the SEC in years.

Not only does Sterk envision Dooley being a solid hire, he imagines the fit in Barry Odom’s program with senior quarterback Drew Lock as potential greatness. This is about as hot of a take as you’ll find from an AD following spring practice.

Many poked fun at Lane Kiffin when he landed at Alabama to run Nick Saban’s offense after being fired by USC. What chance do you give Dooley of making a similar rebound in Columbia?
