Missouri is trending up after its win over Tennessee on Saturday, making the jump from No. 14 to No. 9 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

The move is a testament to Missouri’s growth as a program, and now it seems the Tigers are on their way to a New Year’s 6 Bowl for the first time since 2015 when Missouri reached the Citrus Bowl under head coach Gary Pinkel.

The Tigers have 2 manageable games to close out the season — this Saturday against Florida and the season finale against a struggling Arkansas team. If Missouri wins its final 2 games, it will be the first 10-win season since 2014. Winning its final 2 games of the season would also likely mean a date with a New Year’s 6 Bowl.

The College Football Playoff committee is flexible when it comes to which teams can play in what game. The Orange Bowl, which takes place in Miami on Dec. 30, must feature an ACC team playing an SEC or Big Ten opponent. The Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl are all other New Year’s 6 options for Missouri.

If it reaches the Orange Bowl, Missouri would likely play Louisville — which is likely to be the highest-rated ACC team that does not make the CFP. If the Tigers reach the Cotton Bowl, they can expect to play the highest-ranked Group of 5 (Mountain West, American, Conference USA, Sun Belt or MAC) team.
