Entering the latest installment of the Battle Line Rivalry, the two programs involved were trending in completely different trajectories. That momentum clearly carried over to both program’s regular-season finale as Missouri destroyed Arkansas 38-0 on Friday from Columbia.

The Tigers capped a strong close to the season by putting this game away in the first half after a blitzkrieg of a second quarter that featured three touchdowns. That’s the same number of first-half scores for Drew Lock in his final game at Faurot Field, two on the ground and one in the air, with Denver general manager John Elway in attendance for the game.

Elway’s attendance was certainly a storyline at pregame, as the Broncos clearly have a need under center. Many observers are connecting the dots to suggest Elway made his way to Columbia to watch the record-setting Tiger quarterback in his final regular season game. If that is indeed the case, Lock put on a show for his potential future GM.

If you asked for one play to sum up this game, here’s the best example from Friday’s action.

Lock ended any uncertainty regarding the result of this one midway in the third with this 67-yard pass to Emanuel Hall, which gave the Missouri QB his second passing touchdown of the game. The pass occurred on a play in which an Arkansas defender jumped offsides and Lock and his teammates wisely took full advantage of the free play.

Lock got the ceremonial round of the applause from the Mizzou faithful after exiting the field at home for the final time in his college career. The senior signal caller finished the day completing 16 of 25 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. His career totals stand at 11,820 passing yards (2nd most in SEC history) 96 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.

For as well as things are going for Missouri down the stretch, the exact opposite could be said about Chad Morris’ Arkansas program. The Razorbacks are officially done for the season following this thrashing by the Tigers. While the conclusions of seasons typically bring sorrow to most college fan bases, the end of Morris’ first year on The Hill won’t bring much other than relief to most Razorback fans.

Things have gotten so bad for the Razorbacks, the team is breaking the wrong kind of records as the season comes to an end. Arkansas had -21 yards rushing in the first half against Missouri, which, according to Yahoo! Sports, is the fewest any team has had heading into halftime this entire season. The Razorbacks finished the game with 52 yards rushing.

And it’s not just season records Arkansas is breaking, this team is historically poor when it comes to the school’s proud history. This team just became the first Arkansas team to lose 10 games in the 113-year history of the program.

On the bright side, there’s nowhere to go but up for the Razorbacks with a great recruiting class incoming and the potential for an exciting offense down the line under Morris. Backup QB Connor Noland also got plenty of action in this game and looked serviceable. That was before the game really got out of hand and the Razorback offense was forced to go pass heavy and predictable.

Noland finished the game completing five of 17 passes for 98 yards. Missouri sacked Arkansas QBs five times, while the Razorbacks did not register a sack during the game.

For the Tigers, they improve to 8-4 on the season and finish 4-4 in SEC play. The program will now await the destination of its upcoming bowl trip, which undoubtedly got better following this 38-point shutout win.
