The Miami Dolphins selected former Mizzou DL Charles Harris with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, continuing a tradition of Tiger defensive linemen being selected in the first round of the event.

However, looking at Mizzou’s D-line depth chart heading into the 2017 season, there aren’t too many NFL-ready players.

Unless DT Terry Beckner Jr. has a big year and declares for the draft early or senior DE Marcell Frazier, who finished last year with 8.5 sacks, takes a big leap, the streak of top NFL picks will likely skip a year.

That doesn’t mean the unit won’t be productive, though. One player who could help solidify the Mizzou line is senior Jordan Harold, a former walk-on who played in all 12 games for the Tigers last season.

According to KansasCity.com, Harold wants to step up this fall and help fill Harris’s shoes:

“You’ll see a lot more and I plan to contribute a lot more,” said Harold, who finished with 11 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, with half a sack in 12 games last season. “I definitely want to be a part of this D-Line Zou and bring that back, the old attitude around it and how we used to be. People said we fell back, so that puts a chip on everybody’s shoulder. Me, already having a chip on my shoulder, I love having a chip on my shoulder.”

After a disappointing defensive collapse in 2016, the Tigers will need a better effort on that side of the ball if they want to return to bowl eligibility in 2017.

If Harold and Frazier are able to keep opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable in the pocket, Mizzou could get to six wins this fall.
