Each of the next three times Arkansas is set to host the Battle Line Rivalry game with Mizzou (2019, 2021 and 2023), the contest will be played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

The Tigers, however, will continue to host the game at Faurot Field in Columbia when it is their turn to have the rivalry as a home game.

That prompted a question for STLToday.com reporter Dave Matter’s Thursday column, as one reader wanted to know if Mizzou would ever host the game on an alternating basis in St. Louis and Kansas City. As you can read below, Matter’s opinion is that the Tigers need every SEC home game they can get to be held on campus:

QUESTION: Arkansas has already announced the 2019 game will be held in Little Rock. Would not it be a good idea for this game to be held alternately in KC and St. Louis when it’s a Mizzou home game? No one is in COMO over thanksgiving weekend, and KC can be magical over the holidays.

MATTER: The Arkansas-Mizzou game will be in Little Rock for each of the next three years that it’s an Arkansas home game: 2019, 2021 and 2023.

As for moving the game out of Columbia, no way. Missouri needs to play home games in conference play. You don’t build your fanbase by shipping games all over the place. No one is in Columbia on Thanksgiving? What about the 100,000 people who live here who aren’t students? Games need to be in Columbia. If this is going to become the kind of home environment fans want, you can’t send the “rivalry” game out of town every other year. I can see having a nonconference game against Illinois in St. Louis or K-State in KC, but not a conference game. If you move an SEC game to St. Louis, you tick off the Kansas City fans and vice versa.

Mizzou recently renewed the rivalry series with Illinois, though it won’t pick up again until 2026. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see a couple of those games moved to St. Louis.

Likewise, the Tigers scheduled a 2024 non-conference game against Boston College to be played in Kansas City. But, like Matter said, don’t expect any SEC games to be moved from Faurot Field any time soon.
