Thanks to a delay, Missouri students don’t have to worry about their seats being taken inside Faurot Field anytime soon.

If you were unaware, the University of Missouri is considering plans to flip which side of the field the school’s football team occupies for home games. The team currently occupies the east side of the stadium but could return to the west side. During head coach Barry Odom’s playing career, the team occupied the west side of the field.

What does this adjustment have to do with the student section? Well according to SEC rules, no student section is allowed to be within 25 rows of a visiting team’s bench. Mizzou’s current student section is on the east side of the stadium between the 30-yard lines.

According to Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, plans to make this move have been temporarily halted. The adjustment is still expected to take place when Faurot Field finalizes renovations to the south end zone before the start of the 2019 season.

While the move may seem cumbersome to students, Odom suggests moving the Tigers to the west sidelines will be beneficial for multiple reasons. Moving would allow Mizzou more access to the sun, which could help toward the latter half of the schedule, prevents potential crossover between teams heading to the field after exiting the locker rooms and makes it much less likely opposing teams can steal signals and play calls.

If these statements are accurate, it’s likely best that this move is made, despite any hesitation from any student fans. While their seats may not be as good in the coming seasons, given the recent history of attendance for Mizzou football games, if the team isn’t winning on the field, they won’t show up anyway.
