Could one of college football’s greatest rivalries be returning? The answer could be yes if Senator, and Democratic VP candidate, Tim Kaine gets his way.

The Kansas City Star recently wrote an article discussing why Kaine could be the ideal negotiator to help bring back the Border War rivalry. In the piece, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon details his thoughts on why Kaine could be the man to help bring back the annual series.

“When he’s the vice president he can finally melt the ice between the Jayhawks and Tigers and have them willing to play us again,” Nixon said. “He’s stuck right in the middle of it. It’s not the most important issue he’s facing right now…We just need to start playing again.”

After seeing the article posted on Twitter, Kaine responded with a promising tweet for fans of the series:

After playing a total of 120 times from 1891-2011, the two schools have not played since Mizzou jumped to the SEC. The Tigers have won the last three in the series and hold the all-time edge at 57-54-9; although Kansas disputes that record and claims the series is currently at 56-55-9.

That’s just an example of how contentious this rivalry currently is, as neither school can agree to the series record. For the first time in many years, there is hope that the Border War will continue at some point in the future.
