Auburn picked up a big series win on the road at Tennessee in Week 12, taking 2 of 3 from the Volunteers in Knoxville.

Samuel Dutton played a big part in helping Auburn secure the series. Dutton kept Tennessee off the board for the first 6 innings in a 6-1 win to set the tone. He finished with a line of 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 8 K with no walks.

On Monday, Dutton appeared on SirusXM’s College Sports Radio to talk about the series and what it’s like pitching in a hostile SEC road environment.

“It’s fun. At the beginning of the game, the crowd’s all rowdy and very talkative,” Dutton said. “You get to that 6th, 7th inning and we’re up by 6 runs and you don’t hear a word from them. It’s actually really cool. I enjoy that about pitching on the road.”

SEC radio hosts Dari Nowkah and Caroline Fenton were interested in hearing more about the Rocky Top experience from an opposing pitcher’s perspective.

“Their fans are more chirpy than most SEC teams,” Dutton offered.

To follow up, Dutton was asked if he would label the “chirping” as mean, clever, funny or disrespectful.

“It’s not disrespectful,” he told the show. “There are times where you can chirp and you can’t chirp. They always do it on times where you’re probably not supposed to chirp too much.”

A headline-grabbing moment came when Tennessee coach Tony Vitello was ejected for arguing a check-swing call.

Dutton shared how Auburn reacted to the

“It definitely fires us up. It helps us, too. It helps us with the empires with getting calls,” the pitcher said.

Dutton and the Tigers will look to keep the momentum rolling as they return to The Plains to host a struggling South Carolina squad for a Thursday-Saturday series.
