South Carolina, Florida postpone Game 2 due to lingering storms

South Carolina and Florida will postpone Game 2 of their weekend series thanks to some lingering storms in the Columbia area. The storm system is just getting started as is expected to remain across much of the southeast well into Saturday night.
The Gamecocks and Gators started Game 2 at 1 p.m. ET Saturday and entered a weather delay soon after. The game, which was officially postponed around 3:30, was in the 3rd inning with Florida leading 1-0.
Play will resume on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and will start in the 3rd inning. According to South Carolina’s official X account, Game 3 will start 50 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2 and will be a 7-inning game.
Playing baseball this weekend has been a chore across the SEC, and especially in Columbia. Game 1 was delayed Friday night and didn’t end until 1:30 a.m. due to a delayed 10 p.m. start time. The game was originally set to start at 7 p.m. and lasted just 9 minutes before play was stopped due to lightning.
The Gators came out on top in that one once it eventually got going, winning 9-5 behind a pair of excellent outings from Luke Heyman and Ty Evans, who combined for 6 runs on 4 hits. Evans’ Grand Slam in the 5th inning put the Gators up 8-4, and they never looked back.
The Gators will look to lock up the series Sunday afternoon assuming the weather finally decides to cooperate.
