Alabama basketball recruit to re-classify, join 2026 roster
Alabama basketball just got a big boost to its 2026-27 roster.
According to Rivals’ Joe Tipton, Alabama commit Anderson Diaz has decided to re-classify from the 2027 recruiting cycle and will instead join the Crimson Tide in 2026. That means he’ll be available for Nate Oats and Alabama for this upcoming season.
Diaz was a 5-star point guard in the class of 2027 and could earn early playing time for the Crimson Tide as a true freshman. He’s currently regarded as the No. 27 overall player and the No. 7 point guard in the nation for the 2027 cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
He’ll join an Alabama recruiting class in 2026 that includes players like 5-star forward Jaxon Richardson and 5-star shooting guard Qayden Samuels.

Additionally, Oats’ staff loaded up in the transfer portal this offseason. The Crimson Tide signed former Boise State center Drew Fielder and former NC State forward Cole Cloer, among other contributors.
Returners for Alabama in 2026-27 include guards Aden Holloway and Amari Allen as well as forward London Jemison. The Crimson Tide are once again expected to contend for the SEC Championship and will have significant NCAA Tournament aspirations.
