Alabama basketball has set a 2-year neutral site series against Iowa, according to an announcement from Iowa basketball.
The Crimson Tide and Hawkeyes will face off starting this upcoming season in Des Moines, with the return trip set for Mobile, Alabama in 2027-28. The exact date for both games is TBD.
This will be the third and fourth all-time matchups for Alabama and Iowa, who previously met in 2006 and 2010 during Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The Crimson Tide took the 2006 meeting while Iowa took the second matchup with an ugly 55-47 win.
Next year’s battle should be evenly matched. The Hawkeyes are a fringe top 25 team while the Crimson Tide are likely to be just within the top 25 when the preseason polls release closer to the season. The return of Amari Allen, potential return of Aden Holloway (his status is still TBD pending a drug charge from last year) and addition of 4 solid transfers means Nate Oats and Co. should be competitive in a strong SEC.
Iowa lost a lot from last year’s surprisingly strong Year 1 campaign under Ben McCollum. Now entering Year 2, McCollum will have to start from near scratch with Bennett Stirtz, Alvaro Folgueiras and Brendan Hausen out of the mix.
