North Carolina has been the favorite for 5-star point guard Dylan Wingo, and the Tar Heels got their guy on Tuesday as Wingo announced that he would be headed to Chapel Hill to play his collegiate basketball.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Mingo is the No. 1 player in the state of New York, and the No. 5 player overall. He chose North Carolina over other schools such as Alabama, UConn, Baylor and Penn State among many others. The Nittany Lions were in the running as his older brother, Kayden is a freshman there.

The 6-foot-5 combo guard is a huge get for North Carolina, as Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels needed to get some more guys in the class of 2026. North Carolina is currently sitting at the No. 24 class in the country, with small forward Maximo Adams being the only other player in the class to commit.

In today’s college sports, teams are more than ever looking to bring in guys from the transfer portal. However, bringing in the top talent is still important, especially for North Carolina when its biggest rival Duke currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
