LSU lands elite shooter from transfer portal, per report

It has been fair to criticize the offseason the LSU Tigers have had since hiring Will Wade (for the second time) as head coach.
Nearly the entire roster was depleted. In fact, at one point recently, Kentucky transfer Mouhamed Dioubate was the only player currently committed to play for LSU in the 2026-27 season. (In fact, our Neil Blackmon wrote about that here.)
However, that has now changed.
Per Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, LSU has landed Kansas State transfer Abdi Bashir Jr. out of the portal. Bashir was one of the top shooters in the portal, draining 44% of his 3-point tries on high volume for the Wildcats last year:
Bashir started his career at Monmouth, playing 2 seasons there before transferring to Kansas State this past season. The Omaha native averaged 13.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest for the Wildcats.
Will Wade still has plenty of work to do to assemble his roster for next season, but adding Bashir alongside Dioubate, Mรกrcio Santos and Michigan State transfer Divine Ugochukwu is a good step. We’ll see what else this offseason brings to Baton Rouge.
