The 2026 college football season is well underway, and that means coaching staffs across the country are balancing on-field performance with recruiting for the future.
The 2027 recruiting cycle will officially wrap up in December, but teams are also heavily recruiting the nation’s top high school juniors to get a leg up in the 2028 recruiting race.
One of the most sought-after names in the 2028 class is 4-star athlete Kamieon Compton-Nero, and he officially announced the top-5 programs in contention for his commitment, a list that includes 3 of the SEC’s top teams.
Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Compton-Nero has narrowed his college decision down to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels and SMU Mustangs.
The Oklahoma native is currently ranked as a top-3 athlete and the No. 45 overall player in the 2028 class, and holds offers from over 20 of the nation’s top programs.
His official decision and signing date may not be for a while, but the battle for Compton-Nero’s commitment will only grow more intense as he finishes his junior season and heads into the final year of his high school career.
