LSU defensive back Dashawn Spears will miss the rest of the 2026 season due to a torn ACL he suffered against Ole Miss, according to a report.
That news was first reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Sunday afternoon. The report says Spears underwent an MRI on Sunday after sustaining the injury in the second quarter against the Rebels on Saturday evening.
This is more bad news for an LSU program that’s reeling after a narrow loss to Ole Miss in Week 3. The Tigers were favored on the road, but fell behind 24-7 and were not able to complete their comeback attempt in the 4th quarter.

LSU is also dealing with a major injury to tight end Trey’Dez Green, though he seemingly will avoid surgery.
If healthy, Spears would have played a major role in LSU’s defense this season. He recorded 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1 pass deflection in 2026 prior to suffering this injury.
A former 4-star prospect from the class of 2024, Spears will still have multiple years of eligibility to continue his college career in 2027. In the meantime, LSU will hope to find more safety production from players like CJ Jimcoily or Seth Knothe.
LSU will host Texas A&M in Week 4.
