When the Third Saturday in October rolls around this year, Alabama and Tennessee will meet on more than just the gridiron. The Crimson Tide and Volunteers will also clash on the diamond, according to UT baseball coach Tony Vitello.

Vitello revealed the plans for a fall meeting with rival Alabama during a radio interview on Sports Radio WNML in Knoxville. Vitello explained that the NCAA’s new rule allowing two fall exhibition games for baseball led to the decision to hold the baseball game on the weekend of the football game. The baseball game will be held on the Friday before the football game. Both the football and baseball games will be in Knoxville this year.

This past spring, UT baseball swept UA in a three-game series March 23-25. In football, Alabama has an 11-game win streak in the rivalry going back to the 2007 season.
