Auburn has decided not to accept a bowl invitation this year, according to a report.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 5-7 and were not automatically eligible to make a bowl. However, several teams all across the country have been turning down invites to bowls as they begin to focus on next year.

Auburn will be starting a new era next season as Alex Golesh takes over to become the head coach. Thus, per On3’s Brett McMurphy, Auburn has decided to not accept a bowl bid.

Even bowl eligible teams like K-State and Iowa State have turned down bowl invites despite having won at least six games this year. Like Auburn though, both of those programs will be entering next season with a new coach. The Big 12 came down hard on them, fining each of those schools $500,000.

For Golesh, this next month is absolutely vital in setting Auburn up for success next year. Jackson Arnold announced he was joining the transfer portal, and wide receiver Cam Coleman would be arguably the most sought out transfer if he were to enter the portal.

Auburn will now prepare for the start of the transfer portal later this offseason.
