It’s “portal season” around the country, including on The Plains. Auburn insider Brandon Marcello of 247Sports is reporting that Tigers WR Marquis McClain has entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal. As many fans are aware, entering the transfer portal does not mean a player will necessarily go through with transferring, but does allow him to be recruited by other programs.

A 2016 signee, McClain completed his redshirt junior season in 2019. Over the last three seasons, he appeared in 37 games, recording 3 receptions for 84 yards. His only reception of the 2019 campaign was a 37-yarder in the Samford game.

Coming out of Crestview, Florida, McClain was a 3-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite. He pledged to AU on July 25, 2015 and ultimately signed with the Tigers over 15 other offers, including Mississippi State.

McClain’s 247Sports recruiting profile lists two connections to current SEC assistants outside of Auburn. Deameyune Craig, now on staff at Texas A&M, was his primary Auburn recruiter. Billy Gonzales, now wide receivers coach at Florida, was one of the MSU staffers recruiting him.
