This has to be a bad omen for Vanderbilt football, right?

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Kentucky, the Vanderbilt Commodore mascot, Mr. Commodore, appeared riding ATV on the SEC Nation set, speeding around and performing his usual mascot antics. It ended poorly when Mr. Commodore gave the ATV a little too much gas into a turn, causing the ATV to flip and Mr. Commodore to go flying.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt and the mascot played it off pretty well. Check it out:

Saturday’s matchup could be closer than many are expecting.

Kentucky is 5-5 on the season, needing just one more win to clinch bowl eligibility. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, is in the middle of one of its best seasons in recent memory and has a chance to crack the College Football Playoff wins Saturday and next week against Tennessee.

But for now, it’s one foot in front of the other for the Commodores. Kentucky has played well these past few weeks, and the Commodores defense will have their work cut out for them with Cutter Boley’s obvious improvement as the season has progressed.

Boley is 54-73 passing across his past 3 games, good for 565 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions plus 42 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. Kentucky won all 3 of those games against Auburn, Florida and Tennessee Tech.

Vanderbilt has to be locked in and not looking ahead to Tennessee next week. Can Clark Lea’s squad take care of business at home in Nashville? Kickoff for Commodores/Wildcats is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
