Brian Kelly is like the rest of the college football world, watching what is going on at Tennessee with quarterback Nico Iamaleava. On Saturday, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel announced that the school would be moving on from Iamaleava after the quarterback wanted more NIL money.

Kelly was talking to reporters on Saturday, and the topic was brought up. The LSU coach said that he expects there will be more players finding themselves in a similar situation as Iamaleava.

“I think there are changes coming to NIL, I think this is the first version of correction,” Brian Kelly said. “I think we are going to see a lot of this. This was a new world. I think we are going to navigate the best we can, but I think there are going to be other situations that come. I think we are going to have to do the best we can. I think there are going to be better information that will allow people to look at comps for positions and say ‘that makes sense’ and ‘that doesn’t make sense’.”

The NIL has changed many things in college football. These past few weeks are generally when all of the schools in college football are having spring games. However, many schools, including LSU, have opted out of that because of worries that teams are going to use that information to steal players.

College football is still in the early phases of the NIL, and this is 1 of the most talked about situations in its early history. Iamaleava is considered 1 of the better quarterbacks in college football, and this is the first contract dispute we have seen play out like this. As Kelly said, this probably isn’t the last time it happens, but it could help lead to changes in the sport that people want to see.
