The College Football Playoff committee releases the first CFP Top 25 poll of the season this evening. The general consensus is that Miami (FL) will be the No. 1 team in the country. Where fellow unbeatens Utah and UCLA will be, due to their strengths of schedule, is much more up in the air.
During a Tuesday radio hit on SiriusXM’s College Sports Radio, former LSU and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly revealed his top 12 teams. He had the Hurricanes atop his list, and gave the Utes some respect, putting them third behind Georgia. Kelly slid the Bruins down to No. 7, behind two-loss Ole Miss.

The Rebels are one of three two-loss SEC teams Kelly has in his top 12, alongside LSU (No. 10) and Texas (No. 11). Kelly’s fifth squad, the Kentucky Wildcats, slotted behind Notre Dame.
Kelly has five SEC schools and three Big 12 institutions (Utah, BYU, Texas Tech) in his rankings. UCLA and Ohio State, even without quarterback Julian Sayin, are his only Big Ten teams. Shockingly, the reigning champion Indiana Hoosiers were nowhere to be found in Kelly’s top 12.
The first College Football Playoff rankings reveal is tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
