Brian Kelly speaks on LSU’s blowout win over Clemson: ‘I had a hard time watching it’

In case you’re living under a rock, Brian Kelly is no longer LSU football‘s head coach. Kelly was fired following a disappointing start to last season, replaced by the always interesting Lane Kiffin soon after the end of the 2025 campaign.
The former LSU coach did not get a coaching gig in 2026 and now works as a color commentator for CBS. He also co-hosts a college football show on SiriusXM alongside Danny Kanell, and Roy Philpott.
On Thursday, Kelly was asked what he thought of LSU’s blowout win over Clemson from Saturday night. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’ll be honest, I had a hard time watching it,” Kelly said. “I don’t think it was just LSU, it was the first weekend truly of college football and it was hard, you know? You’ve been doing it for 35 years and not to be part of that process… my wife, she wanted to kill me. She was like “what’s wrong with you?’ and what was wrong was that I wasn’t on the sideline. I had to deal with it and get through it. There’s no mistaking, LSU looked great.”
LSU did indeed look great. The Tigers erupted for 644 total yards in a 51-10 splattering of Clemson in Baton Rouge, and the final score honestly might be a little misleading. LSU totaled 38 first downs to Clemson’s 8, and Dabo Swinney’s Tigers finished with 145 total yards — 71 of which came on the final drive of the game as LSU rested its starters, when they scored their lone touchdown of the game.
