Brock Huard offers scouting report on new Alabama QB commit Austin Mack

Brock Huard can relate to Alabama fans wondering, and possibly worried, about the quarterback situation given all the comings and goings.
Huard, the former Washington QB, made an appearance on “The Next Round” and shared that Austin Mack, the new Alabama QB commit from Washington is about as “big a quarterback as I’ve ever come across. Certainly at his age and stage, I don’t think people understand.”
Huard noted that Mack is at least 6-foot-6 and more than 240 pounds, with size 17 feet.
“I think behind the scenes people also don’t realize that Dylan Morris had a bit of an injury and Austin took second-team reps for the majority of the second half of the season, and if something happened significantly to Michael Penix, a 17-year-old was going to be the quarterback for this undefeated team,” Huard said.
Huard added that he’s not surprised that Julian Sayin is in the transfer portal, “because he can read the room.”
Both because of Arch Manning at Texas, sitting behind an established starter, and Mack coming in with a staff that didn’t recruit Sayin, “the story’s pretty much been told. The numbers are out there. It’s really hard to get your opportunity to have equal footing and compete.”
“I know Alabama fans are freaking out because Julian [Sayin] is an immensely talented kid,” he said. “I promise you, when you see this guy throw, when you see Austin Mack in person, when he walks in the room, his presence is enormous. He is bright, he is smart. The Husky staff loved him. I was bummed more than any other player for the Huskies that went into the portal.”
