CBS Sports analyst names Sam Leavitt biggest winner of Week 4

CBS Sports analyst Richard Johnson saw the performance by LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt against Texas A&M on Saturday night. In the win against the Aggies, Leavitt was 17-of-23 for 312 yards and two touchdowns. After struggling at times early in the year passing the ball, Leavitt put together his best performance of the year against the Aggies.
Because of that game, Johnson said that Leavitt was the biggest winner in Week 4.
“I was really critical of Sam Leavitt last week against Ole Miss,” Johnson said. “Tonight, different story. He was clearly playing hurt; he comes out and gives you 312 yards and two touchdowns to power LSU to a blowout victory against Texas A&M. Tremendous stuff from Leavitt.”
In the game against Ole Miss, there were times when he escaped the pocket too early and decided to run the ball instead of letting his receivers get open. Against the Aggies, he rushed the ball only five times, and his receivers responded by making big plays for him.
Leavitt’s threat to run the ball makes it very difficult to prepare for him. However, for LSU to be a team that can make the College Football Playoff, he needs to use his legs as a part of his game, rather than his entire game.
