A college basketball player who played his freshman season at Memphis in 2018 entered the transfer portal on Tuesday and is seeking a waiver to claim a 9th season of eligibility.

No, this is not a joke.

Antwann Jones is the player in question. He’s entering the portal having played more than 10 games in one season only 3 times despite being a member of the Class of 2018 and playing for 6 different teams across 8 seasons of college basketball. Jones was considered an elite prospect, too, picking Memphis over several offers as a 5-star prospect out of high school.

As mentioned, Jones started at Memphis during the 2018-19 season before deciding the transfer to Creighton. He played 30 games for the Bluejays in 2021 (skipping 2020 due to COVID-19), averaging 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

From there, Jones entered the portal and played 6 games at Louisiana. He missed the 2023 season and landed at UCF for 2024, where he played 24 games and averaged 4.3 points per game.

Jones then transferred to Louisiana, where he appeared in just 1 game, before transferring to UNC Greensboro for this past season. He played 6 games for the Spartans and now looks to play another season elsewhere in 2026-27.
