Last year at this time, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was preparing to play for the College Football Playoff National Championship. This year, his team was surprisingly left out of the CFP bracket entirely.

Despite this, Freeman will still be making an appearance in Miami for the championship. On Friday, ESPN announced that Freeman would serve as a guest analyst for the CFP title game.

The fan reaction to the announcement was… as expected. The Fighting Irish are nobody’s favorite team right now after they declined their invitation to the Pop Tarts Bowl. And until Notre Dame finds a way to repair their “quitting” reputation, the masses are likely to take any chance they can to disparage the team.

Regardless of the prevailing opinion from fans on Freeman and Notre Dame, national media holds Freeman in high esteem. Many NFL teams have also reportedly contacted him about their head coach openings in the past 2 offseasons.

Miami and Indiana will face off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday night.
