This weekend’s matchup between the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels has incredible hype. In that respect, there may not be a game in the last decade-plus that rivals it. Yet, somehow, College GameDay’s announcement of its guest picker may have ratcheted up the intensity to another level.
During Thursday’s episode of his namesake show, ESPN’s Pat McAfee announced that legendary actor Morgan Freeman would be College GameDay’s guest picker this weekend.
Kirk Herbstreit appeared to be in disbelief at the announcement. If a fellow GameDay analyst reacted in such fashion, you can only imagine how social media felt upon learning the news.
Freeman, 89, has frequented Rebel sporting events in recent years. He is currently in a relationship with a former Ole Miss professor. During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Freeman attributed his relationship and “his own feelings” about the university for his decision to be GameDay’s guest picker.
“We are intimate with what happens [at Ole Miss],” Freeman said. “I have my own feelings about Ole Miss, their football and basketball. I’m looking forward to being there on Saturday, and I’m looking forward to this game. I promise you.”
LSU and Ole Miss kickoff at 7:30 p.m. E.T. on Saturday night (ABC).
