David Pollack has been impressed with what Bear Bachmeier has been doing behind center for BYU. The Cougars took down Notre Dame 28-24 on Saturday in one of the biggest games in some time at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Bachmeier’s play makes for an “easy comp” to a former SEC star, Pollack said on his “See Ball Get Ball” podcast.

“Golly, does he have shades of (Tim) Tebow,” the Georgia legend said. “Going and watching that tape again … he understood answers to questions.”

Pollack spotlighted a third-and-four situation that proved his point about Bachmeier, discussing how the sophomore QB adjusted to a zone look given by the Notre Dame defense.

“Ninety percent of QBs know, like, hey, dude, I’m getting man-to-man on third and short. And so I’m going to have these distraction routes, and I know where I’m going to go to the football with my matchup to make sure I get usually a crosser or somebody running across the field to get an easier route,” Pollack said. “Dude throws a deep dig because he sees them go to zone.”

Bachmeier โ€” who said after the game that he felt “disrespected” by Fighting Irish staff as a high school recruit โ€” finished 23-of-36 for 224 yards. He accounted for four touchdowns: he threw for one, ran for two more, and even caught one on a trick play.

“(He’s) vaunted up the Heisman Trophy list,” Pollack said.
