Disastrous Mizzou miscue costs Harrison Mevis shot at record-setting FG attempt

The Cotton Bowl needed a savior late in the first half, and Mizzou’s record-setting kicker Harrison Mevis was poised to play the part.
Already, Mevis holds the SEC’s record for longest field goal made with his 61-yard game-winner earlier in the season. And, with Friday’s first-half action mired by disastrous offenses, Mevis stood ready for a shot at glory.
With time running out in the first half, the Tigers picked up enough yards to get Mevis a shot at a 65-yard field goal attempt. According to the ESPN broadcast, Mevis was good from that range in pre-game warmups.
As the country prepared to witness a shot at history, disaster struck Mizzou. That miscue came in the form of a delay of game penalty, pushing the Tigers too far outside of Mevis’ range for a last-second try.
A last-second hail mary from Brady Cook was well off-target, and the lone moment of drama within the first half never materialized. Ultimately, college football fans far and wide were crushed that Mevis did not get his last-second try.

We were about to get a 65-yard FG attempt from Mevis but a delay of game and we don’t get a 70-yard attempt. Booooo.

I have absolutely zero doubt in my mind Mevis would drilled that 65 yarder

Mizzou should have kicked a 70 yarder, better chance with Mevis the Menace with the big leg

Letting Harrison Mevis try from 70 > letting Brady Cook do anything
