The South Carolina Gamecocks blew a 17-0 lead in their 35-34 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 5. Had defensive end Dylan Stewart played in the game, the Gamecocks may have won to somewhat salvage their season.

Instead, he was suspended due to actions from the previous week’s loss to Alabama. And his Week 6 status is still up in the air.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Stewart has been back at practice with South Carolina following his one-game suspension. However, there’s “no clarity” on if the talented defender will suit up against the Florida Gators.

Stewart’s attitude on the sidelines and field in South Carolina’s butt-kicking from Alabama drew immense attention and criticism. The Gamecocks’ need for his talent is undeniable.

However, if he’s checked out and causing problems in the locker room, it’s possible the team could improve with addition by subtraction. South Carolina’s start vs. Kentucky gives some credence to that theory.

Stewart has been a projected first-round pick of the 2027 NFL Draft since arriving on campus in 2024. The Washington, DC native recorded 11.0 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss across his freshman and sophomore seasons.

The Gamecocks, with or without him, battle the Gators at 12:45 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (SEC Network).
