LSU may be getting a key member of its defense back ahead of Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.

During his Monday press conference, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron said sophomore cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. could be back in action this week, possibly as early as Tuesday. Orgeron said he will talk with Stingley’s family and that it will be up to Stingley and the doctor as to whether he’ll play against the Commodores.

“I expect him to play, I expect him to be at practice [Tuesday], but we’ll see,” Orgeron told the media.

Stingley missed LSU’s season-opening loss against Mississippi State due to illness (not COVID-19 related). He was hospitalized overnight Friday night and was later released.

During his freshman season in 2019, Stingley had six interceptions and 15 pass deflections while earning first-team All-SEC honors, so he’d provide a big boost to the Tigers’ secondary.

LSU won’t be getting back one of its other key defensive players, however. Orgeron shared that redshirt senior defensive lineman Glen Logan won’t play this week against Vanderbilt. Logan missed the season opener, but it hasn’t been disclosed why (although it’s not COVID-19 related).

Orgeron added that he expects to have Logan back for the home game against Missouri on Oct. 10.

LSU is looking to notch its first win of the season at Vanderbilt on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
