Eli Drinkwitz shoots down FSU rumors: ‘I’m not a candidate at Florida State’
Eli Drinkwitz has turned the Missouri Tigers into a consistent (yet often disrespected) winner. Mizzou has won 10 games twice under Drinkwitz and has earned bowl eligibility in six consecutive seasons. His success leads his name to be thrown into conversations for other jobs in college football, like the one currently available at Florida State.
The Seminoles’ gig, in theory, could be attractive to Drinkwitz. The ACC is not nearly as tough a conference to navigate as the SEC and he’d potentially have more resources to build his team in Tallahassee than Columbia. No matter what analysts think, Drinkwitz says he isn’t entertaining anything but Missouri’s game vs. Texas.
“I’m not a candidate at Florida State,” Eli Drinkwitz told reporters in his press conference. “Let’s focus on the main thing, which is Texas. Let’s eliminate all the distractions and clear the clutter… for my team and for everybody out there.”
The Tigers (6-2, 3-2 SEC) have a 9.3% chance of making the College Football Playoff, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. Mizzou has to face Texas, Georgia and Kentucky — who are all in the top 10 of the AP poll — the next three weeks. If the Tigers find a way into the CFP, they’ll have earned it. Missouri and Texas kick off at noon ET on Saturday (ESPN).
