ESPN insider: Lane Kiffin would ‘wrestle with’ leaving Ole Miss for 1 specific job

Lane Kiffin believes he “needed Ole Miss” a lot more than the Rebels needed him. This admission, from ESPN’s “E60: The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” makes it seem like Kiffin has no plans on leaving Oxford anytime soon. ESPN’s Ryan McGee says that’s true, barring a chance at just 1 other institution.

McGee joined McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning to discuss Kiffin’s college football future. He didn’t claim to have insight on Kiffin’s thoughts, but thinks Kiffin would only truly consider leaving Ole Miss for Alabama.

“I think the only job he would have left Tennessee for was USC. And I think he probably has 1, maybe 2 jobs in his mind that he would really wrestle with if they came open,” McGee said. “He’s really happy, and I don’t know if he wants to mess with that… there are ties to Florida… but I think Alabama’s the one. If Alabama calls, I don’t care who you are: you return the call. But I don’t know. He seems really, really happy… I don’t know if you mess with that at this point.”

Going from Ole Miss to Alabama, if the opportunity arose, would be a heck of a move. It’d also mean that stuff hit the fan for Kalen Deboer in short order. Unless the Crimson Tide suddenly fall flat, though, Rebels fans (theoretically) shouldn’t have anything to worry about beyond kickoff versus LSU on Saturday (3:30 p.m. E.T., ABC).
