ESPN is gearing up for the start of college football, and SEC fans especially are excited in what should be an incredible season.
The SEC is once again loaded, with many teams sporting some of the most talented players in the country. Teams like Texas, Georgia and Alabama once again look like they have what it takes to be contenders, but there are also some transfers who could help under the radar teams make some noise.
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer, Auburn wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. and Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch are three transfers who have a chance to contribute immediately, and ESPN highlighted them in an SEC preview that published this week.
Mateer put together a special season at Washington State last year, showing the dual-threat ability that made many teams want him in the transfer portal. He threw for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also rushing for another 1,032 yards and 15 more touchdowns.
At Oklahoma, he gets to play for his offensive coordinator from Washington State, Ben Arbuckle. The Sooners really struggled at the quarterback position last season, and Mateer could be a huge upgrade.
Singleton was a dynamic player at Georgia Tech, and teams up with Cam Coleman to form one of the best receiving duos in the SEC. During his two years playing for the Yellow Jackets, Singleton had 104 catches for 1,032 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Branch is a guy who can impact a game both as a receiver and as a returner. In special teams is where he really burst onto the scene, as he had 774 return yards and two touchdowns as a freshman. He is a threat to score any time he touches the ball, and he will be big for a Georgia offense that lost Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett.
