Ethan Petry leads homer-happy No. 6 South Carolina to 13-5 victory over No. 1 LSU

Ethan Petry and the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks made a statement Thursday night using the long ball. South Carolina took down No. 1 LSU in Columbia, 13-5.
Petry had 8 RBIs, continuing his freshman season to remember. He started the Gamecocks’ home run parade with a 2-run blast off of LSU standout pitcher Paul Skenes.

In the top of the 4h inning, the game entered a lightning delay. Play resumed over an hour later, with Skenes (3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 8 K) no longer on the mound.
In the 5th inning, Petry hit a grand slam to bust the game open and make it 7–1 Gamecocks.

Will Sanders got the start for South Carolina. Sanders allowed an unearned run on 2 hits in his 3 innings of work. After the delay, James Hicks worked 4 innings of relief. Hicks was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits over 64 pitches.
The series wraps up Friday with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for noon ET.
