Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards expected to be sidelined for ‘up to 2 months’
The early days of the NBA season seem to have been defined by injury, and one of the league’s stars became victim to that trend Tuesday.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ new-look backcourt was expected to have fans glued to their screens throughout this season, but that won’t be the case for the foreseeable future.
According to reporting from ESPN’s Shams Charania, former Georgia standout Anthony Edwards is set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee, an ordeal that will see him miss up to two months of the season.
That places Edwards’ return date somewhere around New Year’s Day in the worst-case scenario, if the initial outlook holds true.
Amidst his 7th season in the NBA, Edwards had come to be known as an ‘Ironman’ around the league for some time, having appeared in 72 or more games up until last season, when he saw action in 61.
With the former Bulldog in their lineup, the Timberwolves have jumped out to a 3-1 start, although they are fresh off a 2-point road loss to Cleveland in Edwards’ last appearance. He tallied 47 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks with a +11 plus/minus in that game, showing little sign of his knee bothering him Monday night.
