Former Mizzou star Luther Burden suffers apparent leg injury, per report

Luther Burden suffered an apparent lower body injury during practice on Saturday, according to a report.
Per ESPN’s Courtney Cornin, Burden got tangled up with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson during a red zone drill. Burden was able to limp off the field under his own power, but did not return to practice.
As of Saturday afternoon, the Bears have not provided an official update on Burden’s status.

If this injury does cause Burden to miss time, it would be a significant loss for the Bears. The former Mizzou star had an excellent rookie season for Chicago in 2025, catching 47 passes for 652 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Burden is part of a rising Bears offense that also features quarterback Caleb Williams, receiver Rome Odunze and tight end Colston Loveland. Last season, the Bears finished 7th in the NFL in yards per play (5.7).
Before arriving in the NFL, Burden was a standout receiver at Mizzou for 3 seasons. His best campaign came in 2023 with 86 catches for 1,212 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Chicago’s first preseason game is set for Aug. 15 against the Cleveland Browns.
