Georgia reportedly identifies prominent assistant as ‘leading candidate’ to be WRs coach

Bryan McClendon may be returning to Athens, as the former assistant and interim coach, is reportedly a “leading candidate” to be Kirby Smart’s new wide receivers coach, according to Graham Coffey of Dawg Sports.
McClendon, who was the interim coach at Oregon after he held a similar post at Georgia, is the co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Miami, a recent job move from Oregon to follow Mario Cristobal. McClendon would replace Cortez Hankton, who left Georgia to take a similar job at LSU.
McClendon’s last game at Oregon was as the interim bowl coach against Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl. Oklahoma beat Oregon 47-32 for a 10-4 final Ducks record in 2021.
At Oregon, McClendon was the pass game coordinator/wide receivers coach. He joined Cristobal’s Oregon staff ahead of the 2020 season, and reunited with Cristobal in Miami.
McClendon spent the previous 2 seasons before Oregon as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. His 4 years in Columbia were preceded by 9 seasons on the staff at Georgia where he coached the running backs coach for 6 seasons (2009-14) before taking over the wide receivers room in 2015 while serving as passing game coordinator.
Miami Co-OC/WR’s Coach Bryan McClendon has emerged as the leading candidate to be the new WR’s Coach at Georgia according to multiple sources.
