Greg McElroy believes that Texas A&M is a team in 2026 that can make a legitimate run for the National Championship.
McElroy compared being a Texas A&M fan over the past decade to dating a “brilliant, high-profile architect” who keeps promising you they will build you a mansion, but somehow keeps getting stuck in the blueprints phase. However, he believes this all changed when Mike Elko got to town in 2024.
“In ’24, you had the introduction. In ’25, you had the proof of concept. An 11-0 start is a lot of proof,” McElroy said. “Then, 2026 is officially kind of the no-more-excuses year. This is the year to make a run. The mansion is built. The furniture is moved in. Now, they just have to defend the property.”
Texas A&M is +1500 to win the National Championship next season, according to the latest college football odds at BetMGM.
McElroy then dives into the offensive side and highlights how quarterback Marcel Reed made huge steps last year in his improvement, and he expects the same in 2026, even with a new offensive coordinator.
He also highlighted how elite the Texas A&M defensive front is and how much havoc they could cause next year if they play to their potential.
“Texas A&M isn’t just a contender,” McElroy said. “They are a team that could very easily knock someone off in January and make a legitimate run.”
