Auburn is all but guaranteed to have Jackson Arnold starting at quarterback.

Still, one of the biggest storylines surrounding Auburn this offseason was that it grabbed its quarterback of the future, 5-star quarterback Deuce Knight, out of Mississippi. Knight is already a massive talent, at 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds.

Head coach Hugh Freeze emphasized his confidence in Knight while speaking with reporters on Monday afternoon.

“He’s making all the throws right now,” Freeze said. “I wouldn’t hesitate to throw him in a game.”

Auburn also pulled in former Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels from the transfer portal this offseason. Still, based on Knight’s progress, there are legitimate questions about who will be the backup quarterback behind Arnold. That question prompted Freeze to address the backup quarterback situation, and he said he saw a place for both.

“I’m pleased with both,” Freeze said of his backup quarterbacks. I think there’s a place for both depending on the scenario in the game.”

Knight was the No. 28 overall player in the nation for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also rated as the No. 5 quarterback in his class.

Auburn will open the 2025 season with Baylor in Week 1.
