Notre Dame is off to a 7-1 this season as the No. 4 team in the AP poll. However, the Fighting Irish are ranked No. 11 in the first College Football Playoff rankings.
The Fighting Irish are coming off a 35-13 victory vs. visiting Navy and have a huge home test in primetime on Saturday against No. 1 Miami.
CFP Selection Chair Hunter Yurachek explained why Notre Dame didn’t crack the top 10. He emphasized the Fighting Irish’s resume doesn’t measure up. Notre Dame has only played one ranked team, which was a 28-24 loss at BYU.
โIn regards to Notre Dameโฆ Their wins donโt stack upโฆ” Yurachek said. “Notre Dame has faced two teams with a record over .500 and beaten only one team with a record over .500.โ
Miami is the only ranked team left on Notre Dame’s schedule. That makes this an extremely meaningful matchup for the Fighting Irish to boost their stock. Notre Dame lost 27-24 at Miami in last season’s opener. It was a deciding factor in Miami getting the last playoff spot over Notre Dame and riding it all the way to the national championship game.
Miami at Notre Dame is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff (NBC).
